Greg Jones

Greg Jones is a magazine publishing consultant specializing in circulation marketing, business planning, modeling, and strategy development. He was president and co-founder of Lighthouse Publishing Consultants, and one of the original architects of the Lighthouse Magazine Publishing Model—one of the first PC-based computer models for magazines—which put modeling power in the hands of all publishers, not just the larger titles.
In 1993, Jones formed Granite Bay Media with Michael Pickett. Clients include Ogden Publications (now 14 titles including Mother Earth News, Herb Companion, Natural Home, Utne Reader, Grit and Cappers), Fairchild Publications (Women’s Wear Daily, Supermarket News, etc.), New England Journal of Medicine, and Interweave Press (17 titles including Beadwork and Interweave Knits) and growing.
Throughout his 20-plus years as a consultant, Jones has worked with over 250 magazines on everything from assisting with budget preparation and source development to the complete planning, development, staffing, and launching of new magazines. Some notable launches that Jones worked on: American Girl, Cowboys & Indians, Fast Company, MagazineWeek, Motorcycle Classics, Western Interiors & Design, Wine Country Living, and Wired, to name a few.
Jones has also played strategic roles in both the purchase and sale of several magazine properties, including due diligence work on dozens of small to medium sized transactions since founding Granite Bay Media. Greg is also a frequent speaker on direct mail strategy, source analysis and optimization, modeling and strategic planning, general circulation planning and analysis, online and alternative source development.
