Singapore (October 22, 2009) – MobJet, a brand new social media website launches in Singapore, and is set to challenge Twitter on the world stage. Founder James Skinner, a Singaporean Permanent Resident, officially launched MobJet at The Arena, Clarke Quay. Around 200 people attended the launch, where they were introduced to the new technology, which allows friends, and family to stay connected through exchange of pictures, videos, audios and texts at any length.
Made-in-Singapore MobJet is the new microblogging tool, which allows users to stay connected and communicate, through exchange of pictures, videos, audios and texts and is poised to challenge Twitter’s established position in the long run.
At the launch, in true Made-in-Singapore style, the audience was entertained by celebrity hosts, MediaCorp’s 98.7FM deejays Shan & Rozz, Singaporean blogger, Wendy Cheng, and performances by local percussion group Wicked Aura Batucada. There were also fun activities for the attendees who then experimented with MobJet by instantly ‘jetting’ pictures, videos and texts about the event to www.mobjet.com.
Unlike other social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook, users can share content in one action – by simply sending a post – also known as a ‘jet’ to post@mobjet.com. Users’ followers are instantly notified of these ‘jets’. Users can also instantly post their ‘jets’ from their web-enabled mobile phones. Their followers will be instantly notified of jets in their email, and they can access the content by clicking on the link in the e-mail.
“I am excited to be launching MobJet in Singapore today. It has already been launched in Japan to great success. With the high Internet penetration rate in Singapore, Singaporeans’ tech-savvy nature, and their love of sharing instant news with their network, we expect MobJet to become even more popular in Singapore,” said James Skinner, Founder of MobJet. Mr. Skinner is a Singapore-based entrepreneur, fund manager, consultant, adventurer, and a Senior Advisor to YouPublish.
Singapore’s most popular blogger, Wendy Cheng – more popularly known as Xiaxue, has been introducing MobJet to the virtual community in the days prior to the launch through her blog, www.xiaxue.blogspot.com.
At the launch, Ms. Cheng also announced the commencement of the competition, “Who Gets The Most Followers On MobJet” – a contest to see which MobJet user can garner the biggest following by December 31, 2009. The competition is open to everyone from around the world, and the top three winners will win cash prizes totaling to $10,000.
MobJet is set to take Singapore by storm, hot on the heels of other social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Singapore has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world, a mobile penetration rate of 134.6% – a ratio of more than one mobile phone a person, and with 2.7 million using 3G services. MobJet was first launched in Japan, in June 2009. In little more than a few months, it has garnered more than 2,000 users from around the world.
MobJet aspires to revolutionise multi-media microblogging, and the instant news movement, which is fast changing the world of information exchange and journalism. MobJet makes it convenient for its users to visually share with the world the news and events happening around them – without the restriction of character limits.
MobJet also works with Twitter and Facebook so users can immediately notify their Twitter and Facebook feed of the new media posts they have on MobJet. Pictures, video, audio, and documents can be instantly posted to a user’s Twitter feed.
Future plans for MobJet include incorporating more features into its website and collaborating with other social media websites, such as LinkedIn, etc. MobJet also hopes that its corporate clients will use it for work, as it will become especially useful for executives on the go. ‘Jets’ can be posted instantly – allowing executives to share and communicate their ideas – in many forms – with just a simple click of the mouse.
